Editorial Policy and How We Test

This page explains how we build our tools, write our guides and keep every page accurate.

Last updated on 19 October 2026, these standards reflect why PC Check Lab exists, which is to give clear answers about hardware problems in everything we publish. You can learn more about our team and goals on our About page.

How Our Tools Work

Every tester runs on open web standards that browsers already support, rather than hidden plugins or downloads. Our gamepad tester reads controllers through the W3C Gamepad API, our mouse tester uses Pointer Events, our GPU test renders scenes with WebGL, our mic test uses the Web Audio API, and our MIDI tester uses the Web MIDI API. Because these standards behave slightly differently between browsers, each tool page lists which browsers give the most accurate results.

What We Promise About Results

We only describe features that our tools actually have, and we explain what each reading means in plain words. When a browser cannot measure something, such as GPU temperature or mouse DPI, we say so clearly and point you toward suitable desktop software instead.

How We Write and Check Content

Our guides answer real questions people search for, such as stick drift, double clicks and microphones that nobody can hear. Every technical claim is checked against primary sources like MDN Web Docs, W3C specifications and manufacturer documentation before publishing. We avoid guesses and invented numbers, so when exact values vary between devices, we explain that instead of picking a figure.

Independence From Brands and Advertisers

No brand pays to appear in our content, and advertisers have no say in what we test or recommend. Ads on our site come from Google AdSense and stay separate from our tools, as explained in our Advertising Policy.

Updates and Corrections

We review tool pages whenever browsers change how they handle controllers, audio, graphics or MIDI devices. Each page shows when it was last updated, and important corrections are made as soon as we confirm them. If you spot a mistake, please contact us with the page link and details, and we will check it promptly.

Privacy by Design

Our tools process test data locally in your browser, which means we never collect your audio, button presses or device details. Our Privacy Policy explains every type of information our website does handle.
